Does Nissan Qualify for an EV Tax Credit in 2024?

As part of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, the Clean Vehicle Credit created tax credit eligibility requirements for EVs. If you meet these requirements, you can claim a tax credit of up to $7,500.

But does Nissan qualify for an EV tax credit? Select vehicles do, so long as they meet these guidelines:

  • A battery capacity of at least seven kilowatt hours
  • A gross vehicle weight rating of less than 14,000 pounds
  • A sale price no higher than $80,000 for vans, sport utility vehicles, and pickups and $55,000 for other vehicles
  • Made by a qualified manufacturer
  • Meets critical mineral and battery component requirements
  • Undergone final assembly in North America

Also, to take advantage of an EV tax credit, you as the buyer must not earn more than these limits:

  • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly or a surviving spouse
  • $225,000 for heads of households
  • $150,000 for all other filers

Does the Nissan Leaf Qualify for an EV Tax Credit?

The Nissan Leaf is a pioneer in the economy EV segment. But does the Nissan Leaf qualify for an EV tax credit? After a period of ineligibility, the 2024 Leaf is now eligible for the Clean Vehicle Credit. To qualify, you must have purchased a 2024 Nissan Leaf on or after March 6, 2024, at an MSRP of $55,000 or less.

Does the Nissan Ariya Qualify for an EV Tax Credit?

And what about the all-electric Ariya crossover? Does the Nissan Ariya also qualify for an EV tax credit? Unfortunately, it does not, as its final assembly is performed in Japan. However, this ineligibility may change if Nissan decides to change assembly sites in the future; also, some dealers might pass a tax credit on to buyers if the Ariya is leased rather than purchased.
